In this article, we’ll explore ten great college baseball road trip destinations that promise a perfect blend of exciting, top-quality baseball and high energy atmospheres that are in fun college towns with must-visit iconic restaurants and bars.
University of Virginia
No college baseball road trip list would be complete without including the University of Virginia, home of the UVA Cavaliers baseball team. Nestled in the picturesque town of Charlottesville, UVA’s Davenport Field, which was recently renovated and expanded, provides an inviting atmosphere for fans seeking an extraordinary baseball experience (there’s not a bad seat in the house!). With a history of success, including its recent and memorable College World Series victory in 2015, UVA baseball consistently showcases top-notch talent and NCAA tournament-bound teams.

The White Spot: The White Spot was founded in 1953 when Paul Dunsmore noticed UVA needed a student-driven dining experience in Charlotteville. Back then, the dining scene was limited and restricted from what UVA has today. The White Spot with its iconic “Gus Burger” is located at the southern end of the UVA corner and has been owned by alums, expanding several generations.
Boylan Heights: Boylan Heights Burger Bar has a vibrant college atmosphere for sports fans. Located on UVA’s historic corner, this restaurant and bar is a favorite of both students and alumni. The American cuisine sports bar can please any foodie taste buds from the After School Special to Teacher Lounges – a selection of great drinks.
Vanderbilt University
No college baseball odyssey would be truly complete without a stop at Vanderbilt University, home to the powerhouse Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team. Vanderbilt University is nestled in the heart of Nashville, TN and within walking distance to some of the best country music bars in the country.
The Commodores play at the plush Hawkins Field, which was built in 2002 and features a state-of-the-art press box, 2,400 playback seats, and modernized locker rooms and weight rooms. With two College World Series titles in recent years, Vanderbilt has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the SEC. The Commodores have won the regular season SEC Championship in 1973, 1974, 1980, 2007, 2011, and 2013 and the SEC Tournament Championship in 1980, 2007, and 2019. Hattie’s B: Established in 2006 with an idea, Nick Bishop Sr. opened an old-school retro cafeteria-style restaurant in Franklin, Tennessee. Nick Bishop and his son then started experimenting with chicken and their spices at various heat levels. The popularity soared, and in 2011, they relaunched with Hattie’s B Hot Chicken that serves southern cuisine and comfort-filled food.
The Row Kitchen and Pub: The Row is a well-visited hangout for aspiring musicians and songwriters. The row is called “True Taste of Nashville” with its distinct southern cuisine and nightly live music. Jam out to great music at The Row!
Arizona State University
Time to head out West as no college baseball adventure would be complete without a visit to Arizona State University, the home of the ASU Sun Devils baseball team. Set against the stunning backdrop of Tempe, Arizona, Phoenix Municipal Stadium is a hub of excitement during Spring weekends with its high energy fanbase.

The Chuckbox: A Tempe institution, The Chuckbox is a classic burger joint known for its mesquite-grilled burgers and laid-back, casual atmosphere. It’s a great place to grab a tasty burger and enjoy the college vibe.
Fat Tuesday: Fat Tuesday is another very popular restaurant and bar in Tempe with its roots from Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Fat Tuesday is a convenient and fun place to connect with friends before or after watching the Sun Devils. Some fan-favorite specialties include frozen daiquiris and authentic Arizona-style bites such as cheeseburgers, chips, and Southwestern dips.
University of South Carolina
The next stop on our tour is a return to the vaunted SEC and the University of South Carolina – where the game day atmosphere is electric. The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball program boasts a rich tradition of success with 29 NCAA Tournament appearances, 11 College World Series berths, and two National Championships: 2010 and 2011. Louisiana State University
You can’t fully experience college baseball until you visit Baton Rouge to watch the perennial National and SEC power, LSU. LSU’s baseball team has won an incredible 17 SEC championships and 7 NCAA championships.
The Tigers play at Alex Box Stadium (nicknamed “The Box) where this college baseball stadium is more than just a venue. Widely regarded as one of the most electrifying venues in collegiate sports, this cathedral of baseball has witnessed countless epic moments, championships, and a level of fan engagement that is second to none. Fred’s Grill and Bar: Fred’s Grill and Bar is the oldest bar in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and an iconic spot for Tiger fans and alumni. While visiting Tiger country, this is one to definitely put on the list – either to grab a bite or a cold drink. You will not be disappointed!
Texas Tech University
If visiting West Texas, Texas Tech University located in Lubbock, Texas and its Red Raider baseball team is a can’t miss experience. Texas Tech baseball plays Dan Law Field, and with recent renovations it is one of the country’s premier college baseball facilities. The stadium includes a study room, athletic training facilities, and a state-of-the-art batting cages. University of Mississippi
A visit to Oxford, Mississippi is another must for college baseball fans as Ole Miss baseball has a rich history (originating in the 19th century!), consistent NCAA tournament appearances and awesome and unique traditions. Among the fan favorite traditions is the “Beer Shower,” a lively act where fans spray beer into the air after a home run, creating a visually striking celebration.

Ajax Diner: Serving Oxford’s finest Mississippi cuisine, Ajax Diner has great southern comfort food and a welcoming atmosphere. Named after the owner Randy Yates’s grandfather, A.J. Ajax, his nickname when he was a kitchen steward … A.J. was known for his hospitality across town. A clear local’s favorite, Ajax Diner has been voted the “best plate for lunch” every year since 1997.
The Blind Pig Pub: The Blind Pig is an iconic local deli and pub in Oxford. The Blind Pig features burgers, barbecue, and sandwiches … and their dishes are not only American classics but with a creative twist. It’s a great place to grab a pre-game sandwich and a drink!
Wake Forest University
Wake Forest is great “sleeper” option for college baseball fans wanting a unique college baseball experience. Not only has the program risen back to the top of the college baseball world, winning 40+ games going to the 2023 College World Series, but nothing beats a visit to Winston-Salem, North Carolina during the warm spring months. Notably, the school won its first National Championship in 1955 and was the only ACC to win a title until the University of Virginia won in 2015.
Since 2009, Wake Forest has played its home gains in the beautiful and fan friendly, David F. Couch Ballpark – where key scenes were shot for the 1990 classic baseball movie, Mr. Destiny starring James Belushi. Opening weekend begins Friday, February 16th against Fordham. Buy your tickets here!

Mama Zoe Michael’s: Mama Zoe Michael’s is all about creating a family atmosphere with amazing food! The customers that come in are seen as family right when they walk in … and Mama Zoe Michael’s offers weekly menu specials, a dessert line-up, and southern comfort food to die for. This is a must stop when visiting Deamon Deacon country!
West Salem Public House: West Salem Public House (WSPH) is a historical and iconic Wake Forest pub located just blocks from the campus. WSPH provides great beverages and has a friendly neighborhood vibe – as the pub provides a welcoming environment for both locals and visitors alike!
University of Oklahoma
With its “Boomer Sooner” chant and rich baseball history, OU is another must-visit destination for college baseball fans. Located in the heartland of America in Norman, Oklahoma, the program boasts a winning tradition, securing national championships in 1951 and 1994, and producing a multitude of All-Americans. Louie’s Grill and Bar: Louie’s Grill and Bar offers brunch, lunch and dinner with fun and cozy environment. This casual American eatery and pub serves a wide variety of affordable options in a come-as-you-are atmosphere. With tons of flat screen TV’s, Louie’s is the perfect spot to catch an OKC Thunder game, watch Oklahoma and Oklahoma State sports or enjoy tons of other seasonal sports.
Library Bar and Grill: The Library Bar and Grill is a well-known pub featuring a selection of 32 draft beers, a menu offering pizzas and burgers, and a secluded patio for patrons to enjoy. With its great charm and vibe, the Library is a go to spot and favorite for OU students, alumni and fans.
UNC-Chapel Hill
Finally, although more often thought of as a basketball haven, Tobacco Road (UNC, NC State, Duke) is another must-visit destination loaded with great baseball with all three schools having recently made the NCAA tournament. Our favorite is UNC-Chapel Hill – with its rich tradition, elite college baseball stadium and always good times on Franklin Street (with great college town bars and restaurants).
Tar Heel baseball also has a rich and illustrious history that dates back to the late 19th century. The Heels have won multiple Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) titles and made countless appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Opening weekend begins Friday, February 16th against Wagner. Time-Out: Time Out is a Tar Heel student and alumni tradition located in the heart of UNC-Chapel Hill. The restaurant opened in May of 1978 on the famous Franklin Street by alumnus, Eddie Williams. The background of the name has an interesting story. Eddie’s wife, Val Williams, encouraged him to name the business Time-Out due to its inspiration and lineage to sports within his family. Time-Out is open 24/7 due to the owner’s belief that Chapel Hill never sleeps.
Four Corners: Four Corners was inspired by the implementation of legendary Tar Heel Coach Dean Smith’s “four corners offense strategy”. Smith’s 1985 team used the four-corner strategy so effectively that the NCAA instituted the shot back clock to speed up play and minimize ball control offense. Today, the Four Corner-inspired restaurant is the tip of the hat to the Smith team in 1985 and serves great southern-style dishes made from the freshest locally grown ingredients.
