With a seating capacity of 6,000, McCarthey Athletic Center, also known as “the kennel,” is an exciting place to be. It is home to the Kennel Club, one of the best student sections in the country, and has been sold out for every men’s basketball game since the building opened.

Zag Traditions

A Gonzaga University tradition that started in 2006 and is now a right of passage for every student attending is Kennel Campout (formally known as Tent City). Kennel Campout originated to keep students from camping independently in sub-zero temperatures to secure spots for Gonzaga men’s basketball games.

Gonzaga Traditions

Kennel Campout starts with a scheduled tweet from the Kennel club at exactly 12:15 pm. This tweet will give a location on campus where students will race to receive their tenting number. This tent number is not only the assigned location within Kennel Campout, but it also determines the order you enter the Kennel. The day before the game, Kennel Campout is set up on either Foley or Herak Lawn and lasts all night. Kennel Campout participants can expect food, swag, and entertainment at the event.
